Processing Specimens

The scope of resource work includes the development and validation of procedures for specimen processing and analyses; processing blood, urine, and DNA samples; entering data on processing samples through computerized programs; and carrying out quality assurance procedures to include routine laboratory quality control and maintenance procedures.

Processing activities include:

DNA extractions are performed using either the standard phenol/chloroform technique or kits (e.g. Qiagen). The resource utilizes a fluorimeter and Pico-Green to measure nucleic acid concentration. Aliquots of DNA can be furnished to the user.

The resource also tracks all specimens and aliquots from receipt until long term storage.
