Q: Why should our study apply for Prevention Center services or use?
The Prevention Center provides professional staff and state of the art facilities for the conduct of clinical trials and study interventions requiring performance, feeding, or biomarker testing.
Q: Who can apply for Prevention Center Services or Use?
The Project Manager can prepare the application, but it must be signed by the Principal Investigator prior to Oversight Committee review. Investigators outside of the Cancer Consortium must complete an Affiliate Application form in addition to the Prevention Center Application.
Q: What if a study wishes to have some services performed by Prevention Center staff and wishes to use some facility resources for study staff to perform procedures - how should this be addressed?
The application provides for both services and facility use. The sections on page 5 pertain to facility use by study staff. Please assure that all sections are completed for staff who will be using Prevention Center facilities in the conduct of study procedures. Copies of their current required credentials must be on file with the Prevention Center prior to the extension of privileges.
Q: What are the steps of the application process?
Before submission of application to funding agency:After notice of award from funding agency:
- Prepare the scientific protocol for your study.
- Consider the services the Prevention Center can provide for your study.
- Schedule a tour of the facility, meet with PC Administrative Manager and Clinic, Human Nutrition Lab and Exercise Facility Managers as appropriate.
- Discuss with PC Administrative Manager those services and/or facility resources you wish to include in your grant proposal.
- Receive current rate sheet(s) prior to completing application to your funding agency.
- Review application with PC Administrative Manager prior to submitting funding proposal to make it as fiscally attractive as possible your funding agency.
- Contact PC Administrative Manager to confirm level of funding is in line with current cost of those services you would like the Prevention Center to provide for your study.
- Receive IRB approval for your protocol.
- Submit paperwork for Prevention Center application, along with any additional documentation requested.
- Await review by the Prevention Center Oversight Committee.
Q: What if I consult with Prevention Center only after receiving funding?
The Prevention Center application process can be initiated post-award. Please meet with the PC Administrative Manager prior to submission of a Prevention Center application. It is important to review the list of services or facility use, rate sheet(s) and your budget to better understand how services or facility use will incur expenses to the project.
