Career Development Program

Program director: Peter Nelson, M.D.; Co-directors: Janet Stanford, Ph.D., Paul Lange, M.D.

The SPORE grant supports several post-doctoral fellows whose research focuses on prostate cancer. This career development program recruits and trains those individuals for careers in prostate cancer research.

Historically, we have been very successful in training CDP candidates. By 2006, we funded 32 years of fellowships (17 at UW/FHCRC and 15 at VGH), which involved 23 people (97 took 2 or more years). From the 19 fellows that finished on or before 2005, there are 67 peer-reviewed papers published or will soon be published. Of those 19 appointments before 2006, 16 continue in CaP research, totally or partially as continued fellows (6) or as faculty (10), of which 7 have received independent funding.

Goals: To train CaP translational researchers (post-doctoral fellows, junior faculty), and enhance educational activities and opportunities within the SPORE milieu.
