Patient's Rights Statement
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center respects the rights of all our patients
equally and individually. As a patient, undergoing treatment through the Fred
Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Bone Marrow Transplant Program you are entitled
to:
Medical Aspects:
- Reasonable access to medical care
- Medical care guided by the best medical practice
- Voluntary participation in all medical research studies
- Priority of medical needs over the objectives of any research study
- Participation and decision making in all aspects of your care
- If medical condition reaches a point where recovery is not realistically
possible, we will not recommend treatment that prolongs suffering
- Every reasonable effort possible in favor of your comfort and pain relief
Environmental Aspects:
- Consideration of your ethical, cultural, psychological, and social preferences
- Open discussions about your care; individual needs and privacy are respected
and supported
- Confidentiality regarding your care and condition
- Security and protection of your physical person and right
Advance Directives:
- Encouragement to designate someone to make decisions for you, if you are
unable to make decisions for yourself at any point during your care
Clarification and Conflict Resolution:
- Inspection and clarification of your billing statements
- Investigation of wrongful actions against your rights
- Address concerns regarding patient rights we encourage you, the patient,
to talk with your health care team initially. If this course of action does
not meet your needs, we encourage you to speak with the Seattle Cancer Care
Alliance Quality Office at (206) 288-1057.
