Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division
VIDD researchers who specialize in medical mycology study the diagnosis and treatment of fungal infections and the host-pathogen interplay during pathogenic fungal disease. Opportunistic fungal infections affect highly vulnerable populations including immunocompromised, cancer or post-transplant patients. Current research includes 1) elucidating the mechanisms of immune control over Aspergillus species; 2) screening large libraries for potential novel antifungal treatments; 3) developing new diagnostic tests for fungal infection; and 4) performing clinical studies of antifungal agents to identify optimal treatment approaches.
