Gut Microbiota and Colonic Gene Expression: A Lignan Trial in Humans
PD/PI: Johanna Lampe & Hullar & Chapkin (Texas A & M)
We will use an intervention study in humans to test the effect of lignan-rich flaxseed meal and a lignan extract on colonic mucosal mRNA expression, and to evaluate the modifying effect of gut microbial community on the response. In-vitro models also will be used to investigate genes involved in the biotransformation of lignans by the human gut microbiota.
