To receive treatment, many families must uproot and relocate to Seattle for several months. We do everything possible to make their treatment successful, and this includes providing education to children who must leave their own schools. The Hutch School provides state-certified K-12 education for children who are in Seattle for their own care or for the care of a family member. The Hutch School ensures that children at the Hutchinson Center experience no gaps in their education. Affiliated with the Seattle Public Schools, the Hutch School provides one-on-one tutoring to childhood cancer patients and classroom instruction to children traveling with an ill family member. The school is the only one of its kind to offer education to cancer patients and families in a uniquely supportive environment. Students at the Hutch School find kindness and compassion from teachers, classmates, and volunteers. The teachers are all state certified and have excellent credentials. In recognition of its outstanding programs, the Hutch School won a KTCS Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Education for the 1993-94 school year.
