Kim Stankey steps through a door marked "Authorized Personnel Only" into a small dressing room. There, she dons white plastic coveralls over her street clothes, booties over her shoes, a hairnet and latex gloves. She swabs what little skin is still exposed with an antiseptic cleanser. Once the face mask that covers her nose and mouth is in place, she strides across a sticky pad, which coaxes dirty footprints from her booties, and through a second door.
The laboratory she has entered - which she manages - has bright white walls and stainless steel equipment. The floor is spotless.
