UW Medicine

UW Medicine Part of the University of Washington, UW Medicine works to improve public health by advancing medical knowledge, providing outstanding primary and specialty medical care to people of the region, and preparing tomorrow's physicians, scientists and other health professionals.

UW Medicine comprises the UW School of Medicine, two major teaching hospitals—UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center—and a primary-care network, where all medical staff members are faculty physicians from the UW School of Medicine.

UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Physicians at UW Medical Center provide the adult-inpatient care component for SCCA patients.

UW Medical Center has a wide range of oncology programs that support patient care, research and training activities. It is one of only four academic medical centers in the United States with dedicated clinical programs involving high-energy radiation therapy with linear accelerator and neutron therapy using cyclotron. UW Medicine's internationally acclaimed radiology program has resulted in examinations that are unavailable elsewhere.

UW Medicine also has an active General Clinical Research Center, a large group of investigators in gene therapy and stem-cell biology, and an outstanding biomolecular-structure research program. UW Medicine ranks first among public medical schools and second among all medical schools in federal research funding.
