OverviewIn 1998, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center joined UW Medicine and Seattle Children's to form the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, one of the leading adult and pediatric cancer centers in the United States. Through the SCCA, people with cancer have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment tools.
The primary mission of the SCCA is to provide premier, patient-focused cancer care and rapid access to the best cancer treatments, while supporting the conduct of clinical research and education, enhancing access to improved cancer interventions and advancing the standard of cancer care nationwide.
Working together through the SCCA, researchers from the Hutchinson Center, UW Medicine and Children's seek to speed the transfer of new diagnostic and treatment techniques from the research setting to patient care. This highly integrated approach supports the flow of scientific information among researchers, clinicians and patients, thus speeding the development of new cancer treatments.
The SCCA has three clinical-practice sites. Outpatient services are provided at its flagship 150,000-square-foot clinic, which is located on the Hutchinson Center's campus near Lake Union in Seattle. Pediatric-inpatient care is provided at Children's, and adult-inpatient care is provided at University of Washington Medical Center.
